This whole Koran-flushing-story-retraction thing, shockingly, strikes me as retarded. Why is this a big deal? You're telling me that those crazy, 72 virgin-seeking pagans (that's what I'll be calling all religious extremists) in Afghanistan who killed 17 people would have been at home chillin' out smoking opium and listening to the Dead if they hadn't read a small paragraph in...Newsweek? What?

I hate to say it, but O'Reilly made a good point--these are the same wackos who were dancing in the streets on 9/11, burn American flags daily, and cut people's heads off. On top of that flaming lake of kerosene, we piled on Abu Ghraib and that crazy general (who's still on US Gov't payroll!) who called this a Holy War. The whole situation exploded a long time ago. For the righties to get all upset about this smacks of hypocrisy (credit to Matt on that) and ignorance. Those 17 people weren't killed because a G.I. flushed a Koran down the toilet (which may or may not have happened, but who cares? Is that the worst thing that's happened in the past 4 years?). They were killed because "they"--the pagans--have hated us for 20 years and there's no way we're gonna get them on our side.

Yeah, Newsweek may have screwed up, but for the right to call them solely responsible for those 17 deaths denies that anything else led to that reaction and, more important, exonerates the nutjobs that ACTUALLY KILLED THEM.
